Published on May 10, 2013

This video shows a revolutionary new wheelchair that will work in the rough terrain of third-world countries. It’s cheap and easy to operate (if the rider can use their arms). I love that the designer is excited about solving dozens more problems!

For those who feel the world is a depressing place, that times have changed for the worse… look again. There are millions of people worldwide just like this inventor who are giving everything they’ve got to solve every problem that we face. Go everywhere with GENNY 2.0(2 wheels)

Published on Nov 8, 2013

The Idea of Genny 2.0 is the result of an evolution that started with inventor Paolo Badano`s intuition. More than 16 years ago this young man found himself having to live with his wheelchair because of a mere accident.

The ongoing research to improve daily mobility in those years were never of interest to him. The solutions the market offered were sistematically traditional variations of the classic four-wheeled chair, that, even if powered, always ended up having a number of limitations and being aesthetically questionable.

It was only a few years ago when his attention was caught by a strange electric means of transportation named ‘Segway PT’. A machine that appeared to be magical thanks to its unique functions and stabilization abilities.
The only apparently unresolvable problem was that, in order to use it, one had to be in a perfect upright position. It didn’t take much figuring out to understand that if the Segway PT® managed to keep safely in balance a human being with the center of gravity high above the ground, it would also be able to do so for a seated user.

Of course, as always, the actual development of a plan takes much more time than coming up with an idea, especially since this was a very ambitious undertaking, the first obligation of this means of transportation being to continue guarantee safety for its new rider.

For more than two years Paolo has collaborated in this project, facing with determination the obstacles that presented themselves every day along the way. His choice to embrace the Segway® technology and put to good use the experience of designers and engineers with worldwide reputation in robotics, has made the difference. And this choice eventually has brought him to this indisputable success.

Today Genny 2.0 finally has become a reality. Its eye-catching design combined with a state-of-the-art technology breaks with all conventional schemes that were used up until now, finally pulling down any barrier, whether it’s a architectonic or a psychological one.

TerrainHopper triumphs in Medilink East Midlands Business Awards. Lincolnshire company TerrainHopper has walked away with the award for Innovation in this year’s Medilink East Midlands Business Competition. The company collected the prize at the Innovation Day awards dinner held last night at the Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport.

Manby-based TerrainHopper was launched by Sam and Deborah Dantzie in 2010 to produce pre-production prototypes of an off road mobility product. Since then the enterprising couple has self-financed the opening of a manufacturing facility, patented and launched the TerrainHopper and are into the second production run. The worldwide market for mobility vehicles is expected to be worth in excess of £2.4 billion by 2015, with UK sales driven by Government legislation to increase access for the disabled.

Sam Dantzie said: “Our products are generating worldwide interest and this prestigious award recognises the innovative nature of our product. We manufacture in Lincolnshire and are currently expanding into new premises and creating new skilled jobs. Medilink East Midlands and iNet have been very supportive, showing confidence and interest in our amazing off road mobility product and we look forward to continuing with this valued relationship.

The Innovation Award is sponsored by Potter Clarkson. Partner Helen Johnstone said: “Potter Clarkson is proud to have presented the Innovation Award to TerrainHopper whose off road vehicle has enabled many people with mobility difficulties to have fun by participating in a wide range of outdoor activities across difficult terrain. As an East Midlands-based company we are very pleased to see companies from this region developing and commercialising such cutting edge products and obtaining intellectual property rights to protect their valuable innovations.”

Speaking after the awards were announced, Dr Darren Clark, Chief Executive of Medilink East Midlands commented: “TerrainHopper is an excellent example of innovative design meeting a real need. The fact that the company is also manufacturing the vehicles in the region makes this a worthy award winner. We congratulate them on their early success and look forward to helping them as they expand.”

TerrainHopper is automatically entered into the Medilink UK national awards which will take place in early 2014.
The Awards ceremony took place on the evening following the Medilink East Midlands Innovation Conference, which was supported by the Healthcare and Bioscience iNet project (part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). . This year’s conference theme, ‘Revolutionising Healthcare –What part will you play?’ attracted over 200 of the region’s leading businesses and academics in the sector
